Buckle Street, Aldgate, London

Located in the Aldgate East area of London, Buckle Street is a new thirteen storey building comprising of 103 compact apartments, co working space, coffee shop, meeting rooms and a concept store.

The site was situated between a number of live developments, with residential projects on two sides and the site backed on to a listed German Church.

The works involved the demolition of an existing five storey office building that occupied the whole site and the construction and high spec fit-out of a new 13 storey tower, housing an 103 key hotel with two floors of co-working space including a reception and bar area on the ground floor.

The lower floors are clad in a rusticated, nickel finished metal panels in a modern take on a  progressive order by scale to which the colour of is a handmade Lumiflon RAL as selected by the architect.

The top three floors external and internal walls were constructed with a double skin off high performance glass blocks.  Every block was hand cleaned after install as with having a double skin of transparent glass blocks any imperfections would have been visible.
