This project demonstrates our ability to deliver on extension and refurbishment of a listed iconic building while the campus remained live operational.

This project was delivered in London in the grounds of the Surrey Cricket Club – The Kia Oval.

The extension and refurbishment transformed both sides of the historic Kia Oval building.  The building – originally erected in 1892 – retains its unique character with the new entrance created to face directly down Harleyford Street.  This creates an immediate vista as people exit Oval Tube Station where they are now able to have a full view of the building’s frontage.

The new facade is framed by a series of Doric columns, echoing the nearby St. Mark’s Church, with a number of ornamental Ashes urns used to decorate the building to emphasise the ground’s status as the place where the Ashes were born.  Column caps in the shape of the Prince of Wales plume of feathers which recognises the ground’s special connection with the Duchy of Cornwall.  A Royal visit took place during the construction.

The new south facing sun terrace was framed in steel and clad in brick and Portland stone.  The terrace is connected to the Pavilion Restaurant.  Internally, the Ali Brown 268 Bar in the Long Room was remodelled to open out onto a pair of entrance stairways and a grand terrace.

To the front of the Pavilion we created a new public square for Kennington, which is fully accessible to anyone on non match-days.
